Georgetown Downtown Georgetown Medical Center
As of fall, 2015, the Special Master's Program will be conducted at two sites; on the GU Medical Center (GUMC) campus, and at the new Georgetown Downtown (GTDT) campus, at 640 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. The same outstanding medical and graduate curriculum is given at both locations, but we can now offer even more academic support, and the ability to do structured clinical and volunteer experiences at the GTDT campus. We are excited about the educational and volunteer experiences offered at this new campus, and accepted students will be asked to designate their choice of campus at the time of deposit. We will honor that request based on the space availability.
What are the different campuses like?
Everything that makes the SMP the premier program in the nation is found at each location. Medical courses comprise over half of the SMP curriculum, and our award-winning professors will teach you in medical and graduate courses, using a wide variety of learning modalities. * Although lecture capture is the main delivery for the medical courses at GTDT, many professors give some of their lectures at GTDT. Also, while some flipped learning (student self-directed study followed by class sessions that integrate and apply the concepts) is done at the GUMC campus, the GTDT campus employs primarily flipped sessions and active learning, where ideas are integrated and reinforced in the classroom. This organized structure allows the students to have time for Biomedical Career Explorations.
The Biomedical Career Explorations course gives the students regular, rich clinical and volunteer experiences in the DC metro area. In addition, there are sessions on study and interview skills, AMCAS essay writing, and presentations from representatives of medical school admissions offices. For more information on this experiential course please see this link.
Each campus will provide the most rigorous biomedical curriculum in the country...consider which environment might be better for you.
